Meet the Team
Patty Oikawa is an Assistant Professor of Biogeochemistry in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at CSU East Bay.
Patty is a biogeochemist who focuses on nutrient cycling and climate change. She recently joined the Earth and Environmental Sciences Department in September 2016. Patty is from the Bay Area and studied as a postdoctoral scholar at UC Berkeley for 3 years before coming to CSU East Bay. Her research focuses on how ecosystems interact with the atmosphere.
Graduate Students
Thomas Fenster is a MS graduate student in the Department of Biology at CSU East Bay. His thesis evaluates sustainable farming practices in almond orchards across California. Tommy is also working on the Working Lands Innovation Center grant and is evaluating how compost application to grazed grasslands influences carbon dioxide exchange, evapotranspiration, and invertebrate and microbial communities.
